Ski tours for beginners and advanced skiers

Attractive ascents in the Mellau and Bregenzerwald ski areas

Winterstaude (1,877 m)

This ski tour, which is extremely popular with winter sports enthusiasts and often travelled, is a real challenge and is suitable for advanced skiers due to the steep grassy slopes. Thanks to the north-facing downhill slopes, you will find good snow conditions for a long time.

Route description

Start at the lift car park in Schetteregg. From there, the route initially follows a winter hiking trail in the direction of Eggartsberg Vorsäß. After a short time, turn right uphill towards Falz Alpe, past an alpine hut, followed by a short descent into a hollow. After crossing it, the route climbs steeply uphill in sometimes tight hairpin bends through loose bushes and in a right-hand bend past the Bühlen Alpe. Keeping to the right once again, ski tourers reach the summit plateau below the rocky outcrops of the summit massif via steep slopes uphill into a hollow and a few metres uphill via a passage.

The descent follows the same route as the ascent. After passing the "hollow", a winter hiking trail leads further downhill before reaching the car park after a short, gentle ascent.

Kanisfluh ski tour (2,044 m)

An extremely attractive ski tour is recommended for advanced skiers on the south side of the imposing Kanisfluh with its steeply sloping north flank.

Route description

Start at the Argenbach bridge in Au. After around 100 metres, the route heads uphill to the right of the road. Cross the open ridge to the left of the Leue Bach stream over the Auer Ried up to the uppermost clearings. Keeping to the right, you come to a fork in the goods road. To the right of Alpengasthof Edelweiß, winter sports enthusiasts follow the summer path, cross a small stream and continue northwards over a steep ridge up to the saddle between Hoher Stoß and Holenke. The ascent over the broad ridge to the summit is often blown over. Crampons are therefore recommended. The descent is identical to the ascent.

Hochälpelekopf ski tour (1,464 m)

Beginners or athletes who prefer a short tour will find the Hochälpelekopf ski tour extremely enjoyable. Once you reach the vantage point, the view extends far over the Bregenzerwald and as far as Lake Constance.

Route description

From the Haldenlift car park in Schwarzenberg (Gmeind district), head straight uphill on the ski slope, past the wooden huts to a small subway. The ascent now takes you through the Bödele ski area. Along ski route 2 you reach the Hochälpelekopf (1,464 m).

Hirschberg ski tour (1,500 m)

This easy tour for beginners leads through fantastic skiing terrain with moderately steep slopes. There was once a ski area on the Hirschberg above Bizau. Now the former ski pistes are popular slopes for ski tourers.

Route description

Start in Bizau at the Hütten/training lift car park. From the former valley station, you climb up the steep slopes to the left of the cable car supports to the former Hirschberg lift mountain station. Continue left over a short slope. The ski tour ends above the former mountain station on a hilltop. The terrain offers attractive but rather steep ski slopes in wide forest aisles. Thanks to its northerly orientation, the tour is usually accessible until late winter.
